Stage 02: Palzem - Nittel

Stage #02:

  • Sch. Start: July 9th, 2026
  • Start Point: Palzem Train Station
  • Target: Nittel Train Station B 419
  • Distance: 16.4 km
  • HM: 330 m
  • Est. Duration: 4.5 hr
  • Challenge: Moderate

Hike:

Due to the unfavorable overnight accommodation options, I had to shorten my hiking tour today by 4 km. My hiking time today was short but I spend time looking to the nice Mosel area. I adjusted my hike schedule a little bit. Tomorrow I need to finish the second Moselsteig stage in Nittel and start the third stage hiking to Konz. The weather forecast for the next days looks I need to except high temperature up to 37 degC. In Konz it will be my first stay on Camping place and my first night in my tiny tent.

Stage 03: Nittel - Konz

Stage #03:

  • Sch. Start: July 10th, 2026
  • Start Point: Nittel Train Station B 419
  • Target: Konz Train Station
  • Distance: 22.4 km
  • HM: 570 m
  • Est. Duration: 6.5 hr
  • Challenge: Hard

Hike:

Holy Moly what a hike today. I was totally exhausted when I arrived on the camping place after 26 km hiking on the campground around 5 pm. The tour was pretty nice but in the afternoon the heat was coming.

Stage 04: Konz - Trier

Stage #04:

  • Sch. Start: July 11th, 2026
  • Start Point: Konz Train Station
  • Target: Trier Mainstation
  • Distance: 21.1 km
  • HM: 540 m
  • Est. Duration: 6.0 Std
  • Challenge: Moderate

Hike:

After my last night at the campground, I realized that camping isn’t - and never will be - my thing. But today was also a lucky day for me. Margret was driving back from Karlsruhe to Cologne and stopped by to visit me. We had a lovely afternoon in Trier, the city of Karl Marx and the Romans. Tonight I’m staying at the youth hostel. Tomorrow, I’ll continue on the Moselsteig hike from Trier to Schweich about 20 km. I hope to reach my destination before the heat gets too high.

Stage 05: Trier - Schweich

Stage #05:

  • Sch. Start: July 12th, 2026
  • Start Point: Trier Mainstation
  • Target: Schweich Stefan-Andres-Brunnen
  • Distance: 19.9 km
  • HM: 650 m
  • Est. Duration: 5.0 hr
  • Challenge: Moderate

Hike:

Today's 20 km stage was a pleasant but also strenuous one. The trail, which mostly is close to the Moselle River, includes several kilometers of shaded forest paths with a 550 hm. Anyway, the weight of my backpack and the heat weather killing me.

Stage 06: Schweich - Mehring

Stage #06:

  • Sch. Start: July 13th, 2026
  • Start Point: Schweich: Stefan-Andres-Brunnen
  • Target: Mehring Mosel Bridge
  • Distance: 12.4 km
  • HM: 400 m
  • Est. Duration: 4.0 hr
  • Challenge: Moderate

Hike:

The hiking trail was only 12 km and pleasant to hike. When I reached the stage goal Mehring, I still could take the opportunity for a good lunch.

Stage 07: Mehring - Leiwen

Stage #07:

  • Sch. Start: July 14th, 2026
  • Start Pont: Mehring Mosel Bridge
  • Target: Leiwen Mühlenstraße/Euchariusstraße
  • Distance: 14.5 km
  • HM: 570 m
  • Est. Duration: 4.5 hr
  • Challenge: Moderate

Hike:

Today's hike was extremely exhausting, especially during the first third. The climb was brutal, and on top of that, the heat was still intense. The weather forecast say rain is coming but the heat will also stay.

Stage 08: Leiwen - Neumagen

Stage #08:

  • Sch. Start: July 15th, 2026
  • Start Point: Leiwen Mühlenstraße/Euchariusstraße
  • Target: Neumagen-Dhron Moselstraße/Pelzersgasse
  • Distance: 14.1 km
  • HM: 325 m
  • Est. Duration: 4.0 hr
  • Challenge: Easy

Hike:

Surprisingly, today's hike was short and a kind of easy going - I hadn't planned that it was unexpected. But after yesterday's strenuous hike, I'm treating myself to a longer break today. Anyway,  when hike through our forests, it makes me sad and angry to see how dry the ground is and all the dead trees. It’s probably far too late to stop the global warming caused by us humans, and I’m afraid we don’t have a realistic plan for doing so either.

Stage 09: Neumagen - Osann-Monzel

Stage #09:

  • Sch. Start: July 16th, 2026
  • Start Point: Neumagen-Dhron Moselstraße/Pelzersgasse
  • Target: Osann-Monzel Moselstraße/Novianderweg
  • Distance: 18.0 km
  • HM: 565 m
  • Est. Duration: 5.0 hr
  • Challenge: Moderate

Hike:

Today I was feeling a bit lazy and decided to skip the hike. Instead, I did enjoy a boat ride on the Moselle to my next destination. Today’s destination also marks the temporary end of my hike. The hot weather of the last few days has really taken its toll on me. Also, the weather forecast for the next few days calls for heavy rain and thunderstorms. I’ll continue my hike in a few weeks or months; hopefully, it will be a bit cooler by then.

Stage 10: Osann-Monzel - Bernkastel-Kues

Stage #10:

  • Sch. Start: July 17th, 2026
  • Start Point: Osann-Monzel Moselstraße/Novianderweg
  • Target: Bernkastel-Kues Marketplace
  • Distance: 14.7 km
  • HM: 436 m
